Ingredients

  • 2 cups sushi rice cooked and seasoned
  • 3 sheets nori seaweed
  • 1 small cucumber thinly sliced
  • 1 ripe avocado sliced
  • 2-3 tablespoons black caviar
  • Soy sauce, for serving
  • Wasabi and pickled ginger, optional

Instructions

  • Prepare the rice: Cook the sushi rice according to package instructions and season with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Let it cool slightly before assembling.
  • Assemble the rolls: Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo mat, shiny side down. Spread a thin, even layer of rice over the nori, leaving a small border at the top.
  • Add the fillings: Arrange cucumber and avocado slices across the center. Add a small spoonful of caviar on top of the vegetables.
  • Roll and slice: Using the bamboo mat, roll the sushi tightly. Slice into even pieces with a sharp knife.
  • Serve: Serve immediately with soy sauce. Add wasabi and pickled ginger on the side if desired.

Notes

  • Use a very sharp knife and wipe it with a damp cloth between cuts for clean slices.
  • Add the caviar just before rolling to preserve its texture and flavor.
  • For a simpler version, reduce the fillings and let the caviar be the star.
